This is STRAIGHT OUTTA KANSAS - a storytelling podcast about the people you don’t typically hear from… but onceyou do, they become unforgettable. Because we believe that everyone has a story to tell, especially the people who don’t think they do.
We hope to share stories from lifelong Kansans as well as those just passin’ through our great state. From college athletes, local legends and political candidates to motivational speakers, realtors, community-builders and more…. We want to focus on the moments – and the people – that shape our Sunflower State and beyond.
From our remodeled camper, the Outhouse, let us be your unofficial tour guides. Your Hatteberg’s People meets Thelma and Louise on steroids! All unapologetically somewhere over the rainbow.
Last year, some of Sherri’s friends were traveling through multiple states across the United States in their camper. Along the way, they marked Wichita, Kansas on the map to catch up with college friend Sherri Stapleton – and Sherri’strusty sidekick Jaime! Sherri and Jaime were busy working on Unfiltered – Sherri’s podcast with her best friend Jax - that they hadn’t considered starting their own. But Sherri’s college friends – Tina and Jill – had some amazing stories to tell and adventures to share. This was shortly after the 2025presidential inauguration – so tension was already increasing throughout the states. Regardless, Tina and Jill hitched up their camper and were traveling for weeks – even through states not typically as accepting of their marriage. Sherri and Jaime were interested in asking them about this – werethey nervous to be traveling as a gay couple? Did they feel safe? Were there any places that seemed scarier than others? And had anyone treated them poorly?
Their night of delicious Knolla’s pizza and stories from the ladies led to another girls’ night. But this time, Sherri had her mics and cameras ready for Sherri and Jaime to interview the ladies. It was such an interesting conversation that it lasted nearly two hours without us even noticing the time! And from that night came this podcast.
Since it was recorded for fun and not intended to be our Earhart Episode (Pilot Episode), we kept the formatting to a minimum for now. The unsteady, slightly fuzzy cameras have been replaced and most other podcasts will be filmed from Outhouse.
STRAIGHT OUTTA KANSAS guests are from all walks of lives and all political parties. That’s just one part of this podcast. Because ultimately, Sherri and Jaime just want to share stories.
